Betty had a great time at our friends' Memorial weekend cookout. (Here she is with Sarah, our neighbor and friend and the professor whose classes I taught last year when she was on sabbatical.)
Betty crawled around, played with some friends, and had her first grilled burger. I would have considered the evening a success anyway because she did not eat any of the 1000 Polly Pocket toys or accessories lying around, but as we were leaving Betty waved bye bye, said "BYE!" and then blew kisses! We were as charmed and surprised as everyone else. We've been obsessively waving and saying bye-bye for what feels like months now, but the kissing? That's something one of the other babies in her class does. We didn't teach her that. It's the first thing (besides illness) that she's picked up from another kid.
