Aromatherapy

If you're easily grossed out, you might want to skip this post. Betty's cold has turned into a cough. Betty has also, since day one, had reflux, which means the little shut off valve on top of her stomach is weak and she spits up a lot. You probably see where this is going...

She hasn't been spitting up nearly as much as she used to, but when she has a coughing fit soon after eating, she barfs. It doesn't seem to bother her, and it's really not that bad (if you've been cleaning up spit-up for 7 months anyway). (Also, having Tessa has really increased my gross-out tolerance--there was this one time that she ate a bag of chocolate chips and half a bag of rice, and I had to induce vomiting with hydrogen peroxide, but I digress).

So anyway...our house has one heat source, a "Warm Morning" propane heater, which is amazingly cozy. We even cooked on it when our power failed last winter. It heats the central room. There is a vent between the downstairs ceiling and the office floor (seen here), and the heater is directly beneath it--you can see it through the floor. Well, today, after her bottle, Betty was inspecting the book case, coughed, and barfed...into the vent.

You know how L.L. Bean sells those ceramic dishes that you can fill with water and essential oils and place on your stovetop to fill the house with the comforting scent of cinnamon or tea tree oil? It's like that, only with barf.

  1. Can't be as bad as the hamster that died in our heater vent.
Meanwhile, I hope that Betty is ok and you can get her cough settled. Did she have the flu and H1N1 shots?

  2. A hamster? I assume this was a lost pet? Yep, Betty had seasonal and H1N1 shots.
