Schoolhouse Rock

Today is Betty's first day of day care, er, "school." I dropped her off today at 12:30 and will pick her up at 3:00 as we ease into a MWF 9-4:30 schedule. Day care will, we hope, allow for greater amounts of quality time spent as a family and a more efficient work schedule, especially for Steele who took on much more than his share of housework and childcare in the fall as I banged out the dissertation. We also hope Betty will have fun socializing with the other babies. In this photo, taken soon after we arrived, you can see Betty absorbing who knows what germs from a toy. As you may know, I'm totally germ-phobic, and, oddly, that's another one of the reasons I want Betty in daycare. She needs to catch some bugs and toughen up that immune system. It won't be fun, but getting sick is, in many ways, part of being healthy. Still, it makes me cringe to see this!

  1. Well, as you've probably heard, G is fighting her first serious cold. Probably not a coincidence that last week, one little boy had his parents called to come get him from school because he was sick.

  2. Well, I hate to be the one to share this impotant piece on info, but that is FAR from the last yucky thing that she'll put in her mouth. No matter how closely you watch them, they are without a doubt, the fastest creatures on earth! It's amazing how quickly they can get something into their mouths, even if you are in a full sprint to stop them! But it is true that they more they are exposed to now, the healthier they will be when they start "big" school.
